How to Host a Fun Italian Themed Party with Mario’s Pizza

An Italian themed party can be fun for all ages. It’s a great way to celebrate your Italian heritage or the culture of another country. Here at Mario’s Pizza, we can help with all your Italian catering needs. However, before we get into the food, let’s look at some fun Italian party activities and decorations you can consider for your event.

Fun Italian Party Decor

One of the easiest ways to decorate for an Italian party is to use the Italian flag and flag colors. Italy’s flag is simple, with three vertical stripes in green, white, and red. You can use these three colors in all of your decor to drive home the theme. Here are a few other ideas:

  • Red and white checkered tablecloths
  • Colored pasta in various shapes in large jars or strung to create garland
  • Italian wine bottles or olive oil bottle as flower vases

Depending on the look and feel you want for your party, you can go with more rustic or elegant decorations, such as wine barrels for party tables scattered around your event, or candleholders made with wine glasses. Or, if your party is more for kids, lean into the bright colors and stick with elements such as red, green, and white paper plates and Italian flag bunting adorning the tables.

Games for Kids at Your Italian Party

Are you inviting the whole family to your Italian themed party? If so, you’ll want to have various activities for the kids. Here are a few fun Italian games to consider:

  • Strega comanda color – In this game, one child is the “strega” (i.e., witch). The witch calls out a color and everyone must touch an item of that color before the witch tags them. The first person tagged becomes the new witch, or if they don’t tag anyone, they call out a new color.
  • Piovra – With the game Piovra, one child is the “piovra” (i.e. octopus). They stand in the middle of the yard or court and can only move horizontally along that line. The other children must run to the other side without getting tagged. If they are tagged, they become baby octopus, who can also tag players but can’t move. The last player who hasn’t been tagged wins and becomes the new piovra.
  • Italian scavenger hunt – This game is great to learn some Italian words. It’s like a normal scavenger hunt, but the words are in Italian. Each clue can have a hint in English to help the kids learn new Italian words on the list. For example, one word on the list might be “foglia” (i.e., leaf) and the clue might be, “it changes colors in the fall.” You can make the clues easy or a bit harder depending on the age of the children, and you can cater your list for an indoor or outdoor party.

Adult Activities for An Italian Themed Party

While games for the kids are fun, you’ll want to have some activities for adults too at your Italian style party. Here are a few ideas that adults enjoy:

  • Wine tasting – One fun party idea is to have each adult guest or couple bring a bottle of their favorite Italian wine, or just something new to try. Provide smaller tasting cups and have everyone vote on their favorites. Once people have a chance to try as many as they want, they can fill up their glass with their favorite.
  • Balsamic vinegar and olive oil tasting – If you want to keep the alcohol to a minimum or have a fun tasting activity for people who don’t drink, you can also have everyone bring an Italian balsamic vinegar or olive oil. Provide crusty bread cut into chunks and drizzle each of the vinegars and oils on plates so people can easily dip to find their favorites.
  • Italian trivia – Have everyone pair up to play trivia! You can ask fun Italian-themed questions and even have some Italian-themed prizes for the winners like a gift certificate to Mario’s Pizza!

At the end of the day, Italian culture is all about relaxing and spending time together while enjoying good food. Don’t stress too much about planning activities. Let us do the heavy lifting with authentic Italian party food.

What kind of pizza do you serve?

We cook up traditional Brooklyn-style pizza. Our family recipes come straight from Italy by way of New York, so you can expect a thin, chewy crust and savory sauce with tons of toppings. Choose from our specialty pizzas or build your own with your preferred toppings.

Can you accommodate my gluten-free guests?

Yes! We offer all our pizzas in two gluten-free options. We have a rice flour crust if you want something as close as possible to our traditional crust. Additionally, we have a cauliflower crust option for an even healthier pie. (Keep in mind, our kitchen is not a certified gluten-free facility.)
