In the Charlotte or Hickory areas? Visit our sister restaurant, Tony’s Pizza!
Google pizzeria near me and you’re likely to get plenty of great suggestions. You may even be looking for Marcos near me. Yet, can choosing Marco’s Pizza give you the same options as Mario’s Pizza? Below, we compare the two restaurants.
You may be wondering why we’re talking about Mario’s Pizza when you were searching for Marcos near me. Furthermore, if you love Marcos, we’re not trying to take you away from your favorite eatery. However, Mario’s Pizza offers some different menu items they don’t and you can enjoy both on different days.
Americans love authentic Italian food and who knows better how to create delicious dishes than immigrants from the old country? Both Marco’s and Mario’s histories begin with strangers in a new country.
Yet, that’s where the similarities end. Marco’s founder, Pasquale Giammarco left Sulmona and settled in a small town in Ohio. Mario’s family hails from Calabria and moved to an Italian community in Brooklyn, NY.
Moreover, the cooking style of each family’s origin is different. Sulmona is in the Abruzzo region in central Italy along the Adriatic coast. The cooking from this region highlights the flavors of game meat, seafood, hearty vegetables, and staple grains.
Calabria is part of southern Italy in a region known for its bold and spicy flavors. The Calabrian chef prefers simplicity and the natural flavors of the ingredients. Cooks from this region abundantly use chili peppers, citrus fruits, olive oil, and seafood.
Although Marco’s offers you a choice of crust, Mario’s Pizza specializes in NY style pizza. Our founders, brothers, Tony, Mario, and Vinny, grew up not far from the first American pizzeria. With a signature crispy yet foldable thin crust, NY style pizza became the favorite across the continent. Today, the brothers continue to specialize in this delicious, hand-tossed crust. Moreover, you can order our pizza in several sizes:
Plus, we also toss a few specialty pizza pies:
Additionally, we also offer a cauliflower and rice-based crust for those with dietary restrictions. While we take allergies very seriously, we only have one kitchen. Thus, cross-contamination is a possibility.
Marco’s specializes primarily in pizza, pizza bowls, salads, and subs. Plus, they offer 4 flavors of both boneless and traditional wings.
However, Mario’s serves pizza, salads, and popular Italian entrees:
Moreover, depending on location, you have 2 choices for dessert at Marcos: double chocolate brownie or cinnasquares. Whereas Mario’s offers 4 Italian sweet treats:
Finally, while Marco’s offers only 6 different kinds of submarine sandwiches, Mario’s has almost twice the variety:
Additionally, we have a kids’ menu, stromboli, calzones, salads, and party trays. Finally, don’t forget to check out our daily and luncheon specials.
Ready to give Mario’s Pizza a try, but want to know more about us? Below, we answer a few commonly asked questions.
While we can’t speak for Marco’s, we offer a great rewards program. At Mario’s Pizza, we offer a free slice of pizza for signing up. Then, every time you order from Mario’s, you’ll accumulate points. Watch for deals on our loyalty app and via our social media. Plus, we reward you for social shares.
For over 40 years, we’ve been serving North Carolinians great food. Of course, we think our customers say it best:
Food has always been delicious and always on time each time I have ordered here. The pizza is amazing and the other options on the menu are very tasty as well! I definitely recommend trying Mario’s Pizza. – Joshua B. L.
Mario’s has the best foods. From Pizza to salads and sandwiches. Everything is always fresh and hot. Always made to perfection. The pizza has thin crispy crust with the right amount of sauce and cheese and if it’s toppings well Mario’s has them all. There are so many types of pizza just ask. They will make it.- Christine R.
Excellent food. Always know you are going to get good, friendly customer service and food that never disappoints. Not only this location, but all of the others around town live up and have the same great level of quality and service one can ask for. – Jarrett H.
We have 9 convenient locations throughout the greater Triad area. Here are their addresses, phone numbers and online ordering:
A terrific loyalty program, easily accessible restaurants, plenty of menu options, and great reviews. Instead of searching Marcos near me, why not give Mario’s Pizza a try?

Typically, for the amount of food you get, pizza comes out very affordable per slice. Especially, this is true if you’re ordering a New York style slice. They are huge and often make a meal themselves. For normal sized pizza, you can figure on 3 slices per adult and about 2 per child. Thus, you can feed a family pretty handily with one medium or large pizza.
Of course, prices vary based on ingredients so keep that in mind. Fortunately, if you can’t all agree on toppings, instead of ordering them all, opt for half and half so it just counts as one topping pricewise!
Truly, you could order Mario’s Pizza in Clemmons nearly every day for a month and each pizza could taste different. For instance, go for a sweet flavor with pineapple and ham. Or, opt for savory with smoky meats. Better yet, add some jalapenos or banana peppers and spice it up. Your options are nearly endless!

The Piedmont Triad area is a mecca for ethnic restaurants. Whether you’re in the mood for Chinese, Greek, Mexican, Indian, or Italian, you’ll find an eatery serving up your favorites. Italian food is popular for its simplicity, affordability, and taste. When searching for authentic Italian food Greensboro NC offers, stop by Mario’s Pizza.
In the late 1800s to early 1900s, many Italians left their country to resettle in America. Some 4 million immigrants arrived, taking up residence in New York City and other urban areas. While they brought family recipes with them, many of the ingredients weren’t available in their new home. Thus, they created new dishes using ingredients on hand.
At first, only the Italians enjoyed these new recipes. However, that changed after WWII. While fighting in Europe, returning soldiers had grown fond of pasta and other Italian food. To meet the new demand, immigrants began opening restaurants serving Americanized dishes using Italian family recipes.
Some of the best Italian food Greensboro NC offers are also the same Italian foods we love here in America. Although, they have transformed a bit from the original. Most of the time, this was due to the availability of ingredients. Below, you’ll find our top 5 Italian/American foods.
Legend credits an Italian immigrant living in Manhattan in 1905 with opening the first pizzeria in America. Back then, pizza provided an affordable and portable meal for the urban population. Today, it’s an all-time favorite with Americans consuming an average of 40 pizzas per year. Although you’ll find many versions across America, the NY style pizza is the most popular.
Lasagna first appeared in Naples during the Middle Ages. As it spread throughout Italy, each region developed a different version. In those days, this dish took many hours, sometimes days to prepare. In Italy, families saved this dish for special occasions because of the time commitment and the expense of meat.
Upon arriving in America, immigrants discovered meat was plentiful and cheap. Moreover, as lasagna became more popular, American cooks simplified the dish. For example, instead of using fresh pasta, cooks used dried versions.
Another popular dish, pasta al forno, has roots tracing back to the Renaissance. Nobles enjoyed this ancestor to America’s baked ziti at special ceremonies and celebrations. The Italian version could contain meatballs, scrambled eggs, bechamel sauce, or vegetables depending on the area. Most Americanized versions usually use just pasta, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
Italians have been cooking up this stuffed pasta since the 16th century. At that time, families simmered ravioli in a broth. It wasn’t until the late 1800s that Italians began cultivating and using tomatoes in recipes.
Then, in the 1950s, the ravioli underwent a transformation. Although historians disagree on the inventor, one chef began serving toasted ravioli. Smothered in tomato sauce or toasted, don’t forget to enjoy a plateful on National Ravioli Day, March 20th.
The earliest form of parmigiana used vegetables layered in a casserole. Although there is a reference to zucchini, the main ingredient was usually eggplant. Native to India and China, traveling Arabs introduced eggplant to the Italians in the 15th century.
When Italians arrived in America, eggplant wasn’t widely available. Many Americans were suspicious of this vegetable because it is a member of the nightshade family. Plants belonging to this family contain compounds that can be poisonous in high concentrations. However, proteins like chicken were widely available and inexpensive. Thus, cooks began cooking up versions of chicken parmigiana.
When searching for Piedmont Triad restaurants, how do you find the best Italian food Greensboro NC has to offer? Of course, we are a bit biased about our food at Mario’s Pizza. If you haven’t tried our food, you’re missing out on some delicious cuisine! Below, we answer a few of our most frequently asked questions.

Travel to North Carolina and you’re likely to indulge in some regional favorites like Lexington BBQ. However, many national chains also have their origins here in the Tar Heel State. Have you ever wondered what food Greensboro NC is famous for? Let’s take a look at some legendary brands that began here.
Mt. Olive Pickles, Lance Crackers, Pepsi, Cheerwine, and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are all well-known brands that began in our state. Additionally, many famous eateries began right here in the Tar Heel state.
Already a successful restaurateur, Wilbur Hardee liked what he saw at a McDonald’s in 1960. He decided to open a similar-style restaurant in Greenville. To give his burgers a better flavor, he cooked the burgers over a chargrill. His new restaurant was an immediate hit and he planned several more.
Within a few months, he forged a business deal with 2 men, Leonard Rawls and Jim Gardner. The partnership quickly soured and Wilbur sold his share and the use of his name. Hardee’s went on to open 1,800 restaurants across the U.S. while Wilbur went on to manage several other eateries.
Hardee’s franchise owner, Jack Fulk, and Kentucky Fried Chicken executive, Richard Thomas, partnered to open Bojangles in 1977 in Charlotte. Specializing in Cajun fried chicken and fresh, homemade buttermilk biscuits, the restaurant soon became a favorite eatery with local residents. Today the chain has about 340 locations in NC alone.
In 1989, Morris Reaves opened the first Cookout restaurant on Randleman in Greensboro. This favorite eatery stands out for its inexpensive prices and the multitude of sides. Plus, the eatery serves another NC original, Cheerwine.
Furthermore, you can choose from over 40 different shake flavors. Additionally, you can mix these flavors to create new combinations. Also, many locations stay true to their origins by serving customers through drive-in only.
While this pizzeria is only a legend within the Piedmont area, Mario’s Pizza continues to spread throughout North Carolina. It all began in 1981 when brothers, Tony, Vinny, and Mario, moved from Brooklyn, NY to NC.
We began selling our signature style NY style pizza at our first pizzeria in Jacksonville. Since then, we’ve expanded the menu to include salads, calzones, strombolis, and several other authentic Italian dishes. Moreover, combined with our sister store, Tony’s Pizza, we have a total of 15 Italian restaurants throughout the state.
A North Carolina sweet treat had its start in 1937. At that time, Vernon Rudolph bought a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans French chef. He rented a building in historic Old Salem to bake his doughnuts for local grocery stores. When passersby began asking to buy some, Vernon cut a hole in an outside wall to sell directly to customers.
Although most people eat them for breakfast, doughnuts are actually a dessert. So, you would think with Krispy Kreme originating here in the Triad, that would be North Carolinians’ favorite treat.
Furthermore, North Carolina is a top producer of pecans, peaches, and sweet potatoes. Again, you might think our most popular dessert would be pecan pie, peach cobbler, or even sweet potato pie.
However, the most popular dessert in the Tar Heel state is a supremely moist cake. According to several sources, coconut cake tops the list.
As far as snack foods go, this one’s a toss-up. Some surveyors put Starbursts at the top, while others cite Muscadine grapes or Doritos as the favorite.
If you’re looking for some great Italian food Greensboro NC residents love, stop by Mario’s Pizza. If you’ve never tried us, you may have questions about our Italian restaurants. Below, we’ve answered a few frequently asked questions to get to know us better.

Yet, finding pizzerias serving great-tasting NY style pizza in other areas can be difficult. Unless, you have an Italian family from Brooklyn making your pizza. Moreover, we make many of our other Italian dishes using old family recipes brought over from Calabria, Italy.

Thin, thick, stuffed, or deep dish crust, Americans love their pizza. As a mealtime essential in many households, most people eat pizza at least once a week. Moreover, as statistics show, most people prefer NY style over others. Yet, finding great-tasting NY style pizza outside of Manhattan isn’t always easy. If you’re looking for the best NY style pizza near me, visit Mario’s Pizza. We have multiple locations throughout the Triad in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Clemmons and High Point.
Are pizzas really that different? We’ll let you decide as we examine some of the most popular kinds:
The grandfather of all pizza, Neapolitan traces its history back to Naples, Italy. It was during the 18th century when Italians began topping traditional flatbread with tomatoes. One baker, Raffaele Esposito, also added mozzarella and basil creating the first pizza.
At the turn of the century, approximately two million Italians emigrated to America, many settling in New York City. Although these immigrants brought their recipes from the old country, sometimes they tweaked them to meet new demands.
During this time in history, workers needed cheap, transportable food. Typically, traditional Neapolitan pizza tends to be soft in the middle, often requiring a fork and knife to eat. With a few changes, pizza became foldable with a crispy outer crust. This new kind of pizza quickly became popular due to its portability and price.
The year was 1943 when two entrepreneurs opened a restaurant, Pizzeria Uno, in Chicago. Owners, Ike Sewell and Richard Ricardo Sr., served a new kind of pizza, deep dish.
Featuring a thick pizza crust with the ingredients in reverse, the pizza became an immediate hit. Deep dish pizza has layers of mozzarella cheese, toppings, and then crushed tomatoes on top.
Another style of deep dish pizza became popular in Detroit in 1946. Tavern owner Gus Guerra abandoned the idea that pizzas must be round. Instead, he used square pans and a different kind of pizza cheese, Wisconsin brick. The mild and sweet flavor of the cheese and soft, airy square crust, combined to create a new favorite.
Also around the same time as Chicago and Detroit pizza emerged, St. Louis restaurateur Amedeo Fiore introduced his version. Discarding the use of yeast in the dough, this pizza crust has a cracker-like consistency. Moreover, St. Louis style pizza uses a unique blend of cheeses particular to the area, Provel. A gooey combination of white cheddar, Swiss, and provolone, Provel lends a sharp flavor with smoky undertones.
Most people agree that NY style pizza is their favorite. Unfortunately, many restaurants fall short of copying the exact combination of factors to create the perfect slice. Often, making this masterpiece is a puzzle that has taken on mythical proportions. From the speculation of something in the water to the ovens, critics have sought the problems associated with subpar pizza.
Generally, NY style pizza has a thin crust with a crunch and chewiness without being too doughy. The crust must be flexible enough that you can fold it in half. To achieve this consistency, chefs use high-protein flour with extra olive oil and sugar. Furthermore, pizza chefs always hand-toss the dough.
Usually, the sauce has onions, garlic, basil, and oregano instead of crushed tomatoes. Additionally, you must use shredded, low-moisture mozzarella for the pizza cheese.
Even baking requires special instructions because the oven temperature will affect the taste and texture of your crust. NY style pizza requires a very hot oven for its signature flavor and texture.
