In the Charlotte or Hickory areas? Visit our sister restaurant, Tony’s Pizza!
Subs take the ordinary sandwich and by switching the bread, create a new dining experience. With a long, log-shaped roll and your choice of hot or cold ingredients, it’s a satisfying meal. One popular version has thin slices of beef smothered in cheese. When you’re searching for a delicious version of a steak and cheese sub near me, visit Mario’s Pizza.
The Philly cheesesteak is a combination of gooey cheese, savory steak, and chewy roll that is hard to resist. This sub has become such a recognizable classic that it has a national day on March 24th. Yet, did you ever stop to think about the humble beginnings of this delicious sandwich?
Although slightly different versions of the story exist, everyone agrees that it began with Pat and Harry Olivieri. These 2 brothers operated a hot dog cart in Philadelphia in the 1930s. One day, Pat and Harry cooked up some beef with onions and placed it in a roll. While the sandwich was popular, it wasn’t until the addition of provolone a few years later that it became classic.
Today, you’ll find different versions of the steak and cheese sub. For example, some restaurants serve these subs with American cheese or Cheese Whiz. Others add bell peppers and mushrooms. Whichever way you like it, finding a great steak and cheese sub near me can be a delicious dining experience.
Usually, when looking for a restaurant serving hot and cold subs, you have plenty of choices. You can pick Jersey Mike, Firehouse Subs, Subway, Jimmy Johns, Quiznos, and …well you get the picture. While national chains have their place, most diners prefer local restaurants because quite simply, the food is better. Furthermore, residents of the Piedmont Triad area have one such establishment, Mario’s Pizza.
Since the 1980s, brothers Vinny, Tony, and Mario have been serving residents of NC with great-tasting food. In addition to creating a delicious steak sandwich, we have 10 other hot and cold subs:
When you order one of our subs, you can have it Mario’s Way or Philly Style. If you choose Mario’s Way, we top your sub with cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, mayonnaise, oil, and vinegar. While Philly style includes cheese, mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers. Additionally, we can customize your sub to your preference.
One big difference between a national sub fast food restaurant and Mario’s Pizza is our other options. Perhaps you’d like to start your meal with some jalapeno poppers or breaded cheese sticks. While you can’t get them at one of the big chains, you can order them at Mario’s Pizza.
In addition to about a dozen appetizers, salads, and desserts, we serve several delicious Italian entrees on the menu:
Of course, we also serve our specialty, hot and delicious NY style pizza. Our crust has that thin, crispy crust you expect, topped with our family recipe tomato sauce. Moreover, we offer over 2 dozen toppings and several sizes to fully customize your pie.
Plus, with 9 locations throughout the Triad, you’re never far from us:
Is your mouth watering yet? If you’re ready to order a great-tasting steak and cheese sub near me, stop by Mario’s Pizza. Below, we answer a few commonly asked questions.
Many people dispute which type of cheese is the best and the choice usually comes down to your preference. However, a Philly cheesesteak uses only one of 3 kinds of cheeses: American, provolone, or Cheese Whiz.
Generally, a sandwich is 2 slices of bread or a split roll with filling in between. However, when making a sub, you need to use a long roll. Thus, a sub is a type of sandwich. Since we serve our steak on a cylindrical roll, it’s a sub.
Our customers! Here’s what a few of them say about our steak subs:
We go to Mario’s on New Garden. Love the pizza, Strombolis, cheesesteak subs. Never had a bad meal. Everyone is friendly and the order is always hot, ready and error free. Closest to NY pizza. Pat D.
My husband and I shared a large Philly Cheese Steak and it was delicious. The bread was baked to perfection. It was light and crispy without being tough. The steak was cooked to order and served up steaming hot, just the way I like it. I definitely recommend it and will be going back. Linda R.
Great first visit. Had the steak & cheese sub to go. Fantastic sub. Friendly staff. The place was clean and orderly. Jimmy C.
