While you now know our customers love us, we still need to tell you what makes us special. Our story begins a few decades ago in another state. Brothers Vinny, Tony, and Mario grew up in a large Italian family in Brooklyn, NY. From an early age, they were in the kitchen learning their family recipes brought over from Calabria, Italy. In 1981 the brothers decided to move to North Carolina to open a pizzeria in Jacksonville.
A few years later, the brothers received an offer to open a pizzeria off Hanes Mall Boulevard in Winston-Salem. Today, Mario’s Pizza has 9 locations in the Triad and 6 in the Charlotte area under the name Tony’s Pizza. Plus, we’ve expanded our menu from pizza to include a variety of other Italian dishes.
For over 30 years, our mission has been to share our passion for delicious food with you. Throughout our history, we’ve been delivering everything families want from great Italian restaurants:
Using fresh ingredients makes a big difference in taste. Without preservatives to mask the true flavor of food, you get an amazing, more flavorful meal.
In addition to customizing a NY style pizza, we offer five different specialty pies:
Our sub sandwiches include:
We also offer traditional Italian dishes:
You’ll also find over a dozen appetizers, salads, and desserts on our menu.
Our ancestors immigrated from Calabria, Italy carrying with them old family recipes. Today, we incorporate many of these into our dishes for a truly authentic taste.
Everybody wants options to create a delicious meal. At Mario’s Pizza, we offer plenty of toppings to create your unique pie:

All entrees are served with a side salad and garlic knots. Many people end up taking leftovers home, since our portion sizes are so generous.
We offer two sub sizes: small and large. Small subs are $9.50 and large subs are $11.75. Here’s a look at our sub menu:

“They have the most unbelievable NY-style pizza. I’ve had many a slice in NYC and this is still my favorite.. It has that ever so sight crunch to the crust that it should. You can order by the slice also. Many toppings to chase from. Tons of appetizers and pasta dishes. Their garlic bread is no joke. Be prepared 😆 I go out of my way anytime in the same state as this place! “- cary boebel
“Tried them out for the first time, and again 1.5 weeks later. Both times I got a basic 19″ NY style pizza. Quality is good, flavor is on point, toppings and cheese was evenly spread both times. They put a good portion of sauce on there so it does not taste dry or flavorless which I appreciate. Some places are frugal with their sauces. I ordered in the middle of the day, not at peak hours. So when they told me it was going to be ready in 15min it was ready in 12.” – Patrick
“Always a super consistent experience. Great pizza and great prices. Their 24 inch pizza can easily feed a group of 8. The employees are really nice, too! “– Jesse Leonard

Travel to North Carolina and you’re likely to indulge in some regional favorites like Lexington BBQ. However, many national chains also have their origins here in the Tar Heel State. Have you ever wondered what food Greensboro NC is famous for? Let’s take a look at some legendary brands that began here.
Mt. Olive Pickles, Lance Crackers, Pepsi, Cheerwine, and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are all well-known brands that began in our state. Additionally, many famous eateries began right here in the Tar Heel state.
Already a successful restaurateur, Wilbur Hardee liked what he saw at a McDonald’s in 1960. He decided to open a similar-style restaurant in Greenville. To give his burgers a better flavor, he cooked the burgers over a chargrill. His new restaurant was an immediate hit and he planned several more.
Within a few months, he forged a business deal with 2 men, Leonard Rawls and Jim Gardner. The partnership quickly soured and Wilbur sold his share and the use of his name. Hardee’s went on to open 1,800 restaurants across the U.S. while Wilbur went on to manage several other eateries.
Hardee’s franchise owner, Jack Fulk, and Kentucky Fried Chicken executive, Richard Thomas, partnered to open Bojangles in 1977 in Charlotte. Specializing in Cajun fried chicken and fresh, homemade buttermilk biscuits, the restaurant soon became a favorite eatery with local residents. Today the chain has about 340 locations in NC alone.
In 1989, Morris Reaves opened the first Cookout restaurant on Randleman in Greensboro. This favorite eatery stands out for its inexpensive prices and the multitude of sides. Plus, the eatery serves another NC original, Cheerwine.
Furthermore, you can choose from over 40 different shake flavors. Additionally, you can mix these flavors to create new combinations. Also, many locations stay true to their origins by serving customers through drive-in only.
While this pizzeria is only a legend within the Piedmont area, Mario’s Pizza continues to spread throughout North Carolina. It all began in 1981 when brothers, Tony, Vinny, and Mario, moved from Brooklyn, NY to NC.
We began selling our signature style NY style pizza at our first pizzeria in Jacksonville. Since then, we’ve expanded the menu to include salads, calzones, strombolis, and several other authentic Italian dishes. Moreover, combined with our sister store, Tony’s Pizza, we have a total of 15 Italian restaurants throughout the state.
A North Carolina sweet treat had its start in 1937. At that time, Vernon Rudolph bought a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans French chef. He rented a building in historic Old Salem to bake his doughnuts for local grocery stores. When passersby began asking to buy some, Vernon cut a hole in an outside wall to sell directly to customers.
Although most people eat them for breakfast, doughnuts are actually a dessert. So, you would think with Krispy Kreme originating here in the Triad, that would be North Carolinians’ favorite treat.
Furthermore, North Carolina is a top producer of pecans, peaches, and sweet potatoes. Again, you might think our most popular dessert would be pecan pie, peach cobbler, or even sweet potato pie.
However, the most popular dessert in the Tar Heel state is a supremely moist cake. According to several sources, coconut cake tops the list.
As far as snack foods go, this one’s a toss-up. Some surveyors put Starbursts at the top, while others cite Muscadine grapes or Doritos as the favorite.
If you’re looking for some great Italian food Greensboro NC residents love, stop by Mario’s Pizza. If you’ve never tried us, you may have questions about our Italian restaurants. Below, we’ve answered a few frequently asked questions to get to know us better.
America’s love affair with pizza began in NY when Italian immigrants began selling it in 1905. Since then, chefs have altered the original recipe to create different versions. However, many people still prefer the original NY style.
Yet, finding pizzerias serving great-tasting NY style pizza in other areas can be difficult. Unless, you have an Italian family from Brooklyn making your pizza. Moreover, we make many of our other Italian dishes using old family recipes brought over from Calabria, Italy.
Of course! Simply place your order online or from our smartphone app. Then, you can pick your order up at one of our convenient locations. Or you can have it delivered to your doorstep. For your convenience, we use several different delivery partners like Uber Eats and DoorDash.
“Unless you are pizza the answer is yes I can live without you.” – Bill Murray

Pizza ranks as the second most popular fast food in America behind hamburgers. Its crispy crust, tangy sauce, and gooey cheese combination are irresistible. Yet, with so many pizzerias around town, which is the best pizza High Point has to offer?
While you might find dozens of pizzerias in your town, not all create the slice of heaven you crave. Moreover, the style of pizza is almost as varied as the toppings. Yet, whether you want NY style, Chicago deep dish, or Sicilian style, popular Italian restaurants have similar characteristics:
“The staff, the food omg I love this place and refuse to get pizza anywhere else. If you want pizza you come here.” – Mike Smith
“Excellent pizza, as someone from the Philly/NJ/NYC area born and raised but now in Western PA (where great pizza is lacking), I’m picky about my pizza and know what I’m looking for in quality. I was VERY happy and impressed with Mario’s just regular cheese pizza. Loved it, as good as I’ve maybe had in the past few years. Keep up the great work! (Also we used Door Dash and everything went well).” – Gavin Hoban
While we specialize in delicious pizza, we also offer many other tasty Italian dishes including subs, calzones, stromboli, and parmigiana. Plus, we offer over a dozen appetizers, salads, and delectable desserts.
Generally, great Italian cuisine begins with family recipes from the old country. Of course, Mario’s dishes trace their roots back to Calabria, Italy.
However, we also recognize the importance of value and being able to take your family out to dinner. That’s why we offer a kid’s menu with options for $5 and under along with daily specials.
Americans lead very busy lives. Ordering online offers the convenience of having food ready when you need it. Of course, Mario’s offers this accommodation at all our locations. You can choose to pick it up or have it delivered to your door. Either way, you’ll save time and have a tasty meal.
While the pizzeria’s qualities are important, it’s time to talk about the best pizza High Point has to offer. What makes one restaurant’s pizza superior to another? Below, we outline the required features of the best tasting pizza.
Undoubtedly, you can taste the difference between fresh and preserved ingredients. Canning and processing companies use sodium, sugar, and preservatives to increase the shelf-life of food. However, these additives mask the true flavor of the substance. Of course, at Mario’s we use the freshest ingredients possible.
Even if the rest of your pie is superb, a soggy, tasteless crust will ruin it. Whether you like it thin or thick, the best pizza begins with the crust. Three characteristics make the perfect crust:
If the crust is the base of your pizza, the sauce is the enhancer. With the taste of fresh tomatoes perfectly seasoned, the sauce improves the overall flavor of the pie.
Usually, pizza lovers will hotly debate which toppings make the best pizza. However, whichever combination you prefer, the best pizzerias will offer plenty of options. Here at Mario’s Pizza, we have over 20 regular and premium toppings designed to make your pizza memorable.
Wood-fired or gas oven? Typically, each way of baking may impart a slightly different flavor. However, great pizza chefs also pay attention to oven temperature and cooking time to produce the perfect pie. Never soggy, undercooked, or dry, a great pizza is a delicacy to savor.
Of course, when you put all these qualities together, you should end up with a pizza that tastes delicious.
We’d love to answer any questions you may have about the best pizza High Point has to offer. Below, we’ve answered a few of our most commonly asked questions.
Yes, we do! You can choose from our more traditional rice-based or cauliflower crusts. Additionally, many of our toppings are gluten-free. Ask your server about safe options when you place your order.

Depending on the look and feel you want for your party, you can go with more rustic or elegant decorations, such as wine barrels for party tables scattered around your event, or candleholders made with wine glasses. Or, if your party is more for kids, lean into the bright colors and stick with elements such as red, green, and white paper plates and Italian flag bunting adoring the tables.

Modern people lead very busy lives. Working, taking care of children, or running to a schedule full of activities, may lead some people to skip lunch. Yet, missing a meal can have negative effects on your health. Instead, check out Mario’s Pizza for some great lunch ideas to fit your busy schedule.
People cite many reasons for skipping lunch. Often, they’re too busy to prepare something. Other times, they’re tired of the same old thing or trying to stick to a budget. However, missing out on your noonday meal may have the following effects.
During our waking hours, our bodies need to fuel about every 4-6 hours. Without fuel, you’ll feel tired and sluggish. Moreover, you’ll have trouble thinking because your brain won’t have enough glucose to function at full capacity.
When you eat, your body converts food into blood sugar or glucose. Your cells need glucose for energy to power all your body’s systems. Repeatedly skipping lunch may impact your sensitivity to insulin. Continual swings in your blood sugar level can lead to an increased risk of diabetes.
Usually, when people skip lunch, they overeat at their next meal. Missing lunch causes a reaction in your body putting it in survival mode. This causes you to lose control over your food intake often resulting in gorging.
Another negative effect of skipping lunch is weight gain. Without fuel, your body will lower its metabolism, burning fewer calories. Eating the usual amount of food with a lower rate of metabolism leads to weight gain.
Our bodies require the proper ratio of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats. When you miss lunch, you miss an opportunity to replenish vital nutrients. Moreover, if you satisfy your hunger with junk food, you’ll fill your body with foods lacking in nourishments.
Even if you understand that skipping lunch is a bad idea, you may still find yourself doing it. Crunched for time or bored with your choices, you may find lunch a chore rather than a pleasure.
Sometimes, just taking a traditional lunch food, you can add a twist to give your meal new excitement and flavor. For example, take your standard sandwich. Most people use white bread. However, by simply changing the bread, you can give your sandwich a whole new texture and taste.
Depending on what type of bread you use, your sandwich can taste sweet, earthy, tangy, buttery, or nutty. Moreover, textures can be soft, crunchy, crispy, or chewy.
Even if you prefer particular deli meats, you can liven up your sandwich by changing up your condiments. Or give your favorite spread some kick. Add garlic, turmeric, ginger, basil, tarragon, or dill to mayonnaise for a whole new flavor.
Similarly, your everyday salad can undergo the same transformation. Try adding chia, pumpkin, or sunflower seeds for a nice crunch. Walnuts, almonds, pecans, cashews, or macadamia are also terrific with any type of salad.
Finally, consider adding dried fruit for a sweet and chewy bite. Cranberries, blueberries, cherries, or apricots are delightful options.
Although all these ideas may inspire you, you may find yourself lacking time to prep your lunch. That’s where Mario’s Pizza can help. With an extensive menu, 8 centrally located restaurants plus food delivery options, we can take care of lunch.
Moreover, we offer an assorted selection of salads made with the freshest ingredients. Pair your selection with one of our many appetizers for a hearty meal.
Of course, you can also order slices of our great-tasting New York style pizza. Originating from our family’s traditional Italian recipes, our pizza surpasses any big chain restaurant.

Typically, most folks consider pasta as classic Italian fare. While many cultures do indeed have a variation of noodle recipes, Italians elevate pasta to a tier of its own. However, pasta is only one part of the varied and delicious palette of Italian cuisine. Many Americans also devour pizza, subs, and calzones. If you’re looking for fabulous Italian food near me, stop by Mario’s Pizza.
According to folklore, a Maine baker, Giovanni Amato, invented the submarine sandwich in 1902. To the delight of his customers, he sliced open flavorful loaves of bread and layered them with meat, cheese, and vegetables. This concoction quickly spread to other areas of the United States becoming a staple for many Americans.
Nowadays, you’ll hear other names for this delicious masterpiece depending on where you live. Popular variations include hero, hoagie, or grinder. Whichever name you use, these stacked super-sized sandwiches are delightful.
At Mario’s Pizza, choose from our diverse menu of mouth-watering subs. We offer two sizes, two different ways. Begin with traditional steak. Or, pick our grilled chicken or chic-o-Philly sub. Choose our small or large size depending on how hungry you are. Better yet, go big and share!
Once you pick your favorite sub, add additional ingredients. Two of our most popular options are:
Mario’s Way: oil, vinegar, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, cheese, banana peppers and onions
Philly Way: cheese, bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions
Either way you choose, you can’t beat our flavorful subs.
Tracing its roots back to ancient times, pasta is a mixture of wheat flour with water or eggs. Although some historians consider Marco Polo as the conduit of noodles to Italy, there is evidence that Italians made pasta beforehand. This affordable staple comes in over 300 different shapes. With a long shelf life once dried, it’s a versatile and delicious option to accompany flavorful sauces.
Mario’s Pizza serves traditional pasta dishes such as spaghetti, lasagna, ravioli, and ziti. Additionally, we offer three kinds of parmigiana: chicken, veal, and eggplant. Better yet, all our entrees include a tasty side salad and 3 garlic knots.
Moreover, we carefully choose the freshest ingredients to make your meal memorable. Likewise, to ensure authentic flavor, many of our dishes originate from old family recipes brought over from Calabria, Italy.

Similarly, you may order a side salad to go with any of our entrees. If you want to turn your salad into a main dish, simply add grilled or crispy chicken.
Italy is known for its diverse selection of delicious cheeses. Italian pastry chefs blend some of these cheeses with sugar creating delectable mouth-watering desserts.
An iconic example of a delightful Italian dessert made with cheese is cannoli. Chefs deep fry a tube of dough and then pipe in sweetened ricotta. The result – a dessert that’s crispy on the outside and rich and sweet on the inside. Not much beats fresh cannoli!
Tiramisu is another well-known Italian dessert including cheese. Much like trifle, tiramisu contains layers of ladyfingers dipped in coffee, mascarpone filling and chocolate. It’s an excellent way to end a tasteful meal.
If you’re looking for something a little different, how about a slice of limoncello mascarpone cake? Customers love our soft lemony sponge cake topped with sweet mascarpone icing. The light lemon and soft texture are the perfect balance to complete your meal.
Perhaps, you’re thinking of something a little more familiar. Try our Italian-style cheesecake! You’ll enjoy every creamy and decadent morsel.
You’re not the only one looking for Italian food near me. Stephen Starr has it right when he states:

When ordering out, consumers have many options like burgers, chicken, or Chinese. Not surprisingly, one of America’s favorite choices is pizza. In fact, pizza is the food that most Americans would want to eat for the rest of their lives.
Undoubtedly, plenty of pizzerias exist. However, when you want authentic New York-style pizza, Mario’s is the place to go.
Gennaro Lombardi introduced Americans to pizza in 1905 when he opened the country’s first pizzeria. Located in the Little Italy neighborhood of Manhattan, little did he know that New York-style pizza would become a phenomenon.
As Italians migrated to different parts of the country, New York-style pizzerias began to pop up. In 1981, brothers Vinny, Tony, and Mario left Brooklyn and moved to the North Carolina coast. There they opened a pizzeria in Jacksonville and Havelock.

Incredibly, you’ll find over two dozen pizzerias just in Greensboro alone. Thus, it can be hard to find the best pizza places near me. To help you get to know us better, we’ve answered a few of our most commonly asked questions.
Sometimes, New York-style pizza offered outside of this city isn’t quite the same. The trick to creating authentic-style pizza lies in the creation of the dough. Not only must you use high-quality ingredients, but also there’s a certain technique for preparation.
Since our owners are good ole Italian Brooklyn boys, they know exactly how to toss a pizza. Our pies are thick and crispy along the edge, yet soft enough to fold in half to eat.
The history of Brooklyn, NY includes a huge influx of Italian immigrants who settled and made this area their home. These immigrants brought with them their family recipes from the old country.
Vinny, Tony, and Mario grew up among this large Italian population. Their meals included dishes made from family recipes from Calabria, Italy. Today, the brothers serve many of these same meals at their restaurants. You can’t get any more Italian than that.
