Often, busy lifestyles separate families. Sports, extracurricular activities, and work can send family members in opposite directions. That’s why it’s so important to share a meal together. When searching for family style restaurants near me, visit Mario’s Pizza.

Sharing Mealtime Together Is Important

Only about 30% of today’s modern families eat together regularly. With working parents and children’s activities, it may seem an impossible task. However, over 20 years of studies have shown the importance of sharing family dinners. Eating together has these important benefits for children:

  • Lower rates of depression and anxiety
  • Less chance of substance abuse
  • Decreased risk of eating disorders
  • Reduced rates of early teenage pregnancy
  • Higher rates of self-esteem
  • Better academic performance

With so many crucial developmental aspects, Mario’s Pizza wants to help you make this a priority. All of our restaurants welcome children in a relaxed family friendly dining atmosphere.

Family Style Menu Items

Typically, restaurants offering family style dining involve servers bringing large dishes of food rather than individually plated meals. After setting the plates in the middle of the table, diners serve themselves.

Undoubtedly, a pizza pie fits this description. Once the chef has finished baking your pie, your server will set it in the center of your table. Then, members of your dining party simply help themselves to a slice making it the ultimate family food.

At Mario’s Pizza, we have several sizes of pizza depending on your family size and appetite:

  • 10 inches
  • 15 inches
  • 17 inches
  • 19 inches
  • 24 inches

Plus, you can customize your pie with our large selection of toppings. You can choose popular favorites like pepperoni, black olives, mushrooms, or sausage. Feeling a little exotic? We also have pineapple, broccoli, feta, and artichoke hearts. In total, we offer over 2 dozen delectable toppings.

Can’t decide from among our many options? Our specialty pizza pies combine particular toppings for a delicious flavor:

1. Greenhouse

If you love vegetables, this is the pizza for you! We top it with tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, bell peppers, onions, and black olives.

2. 5 Boroughs

We named our meat lovers pizza after our birthplace in New York. You’ll love our generous portions of sausage, pepperoni, ham, beef, and bacon.

3. The Worx

What if you can’t decide between vegetables or meat? Our Worx pizza has a mix of pepperoni, sausage, beef, Canadian bacon, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and black olives.

4. Pizza Bianco

For this pizza pie, we skip the tomato sauce. Instead, we pile on ricotta, mozzarella, and garlic.

5. Spicy Buffalo

For an incredibly flavorful pizza, try our version of spicy Buffalo. Chicken, onions, bacon, cheese, and our own special savory sauce fuse into a tantalizingly delicious pie.

Pair Your Pizza With A Salad, Appetizer, Or Wings

Of course, pizza is a terrific stand-alone dish. Yet, sometimes you may want to pair it with something else to round out the meal. Ordering a large salad to share with your family can bring balance and diversity to dinner. At Mario’s Pizza, we offer several delicious salads:

  • Greek
  • Chef
  • Caesar
  • Garden

Often, many diners like to add on an appetizer. This gives you a greater variety of flavors and textures while enhancing the enjoyment of your pizza. Some favorites on our menu include meatballs, garlic knots, and jalapeno poppers.

Additionally, we also serve a crowd favorite, wings. Pizza and wings are the perfect combination in family style dining. Both are finger foods allowing diners to “dig right in”. Plus, the carbohydrates in pizza balance nicely with the protein in chicken. We offer mild, Buffalo, honey BBQ, Teriyaki, or sweet chili sauce for your wings to perfectly complement your pizza pie.

Please check each restaurant for the availability of menu items as our options may change with location.

Similarities And Differences Between Mario’s Pizza and Marcos Near Me

You may be wondering why we’re talking about Mario’s Pizza when you were searching for Marcos near me. Furthermore, if you love Marcos, we’re not trying to take you away from your favorite eatery. However, Mario’s Pizza offers some different menu items they don’t and you can enjoy both on different days.

1. Italian Families Started Both Pizzerias

Americans love authentic Italian food and who knows better how to create delicious dishes than immigrants from the old country? Both Marco’s and Mario’s histories begin with strangers in a new country.

Yet, that’s where the similarities end. Marco’s founder, Pasquale Giammarco left Sulmona and settled in a small town in Ohio. Mario’s family hails from Calabria and moved to an Italian community in Brooklyn, NY.

Moreover, the cooking style of each family’s origin is different. Sulmona is in the Abruzzo region in central Italy along the Adriatic coast. The cooking from this region highlights the flavors of game meat, seafood, hearty vegetables, and staple grains.

Calabria is part of southern Italy in a region known for its bold and spicy flavors. The Calabrian chef prefers simplicity and the natural flavors of the ingredients. Cooks from this region abundantly use chili peppers, citrus fruits, olive oil, and seafood.

2. Thin Crust Pizza Is On The Menu At Both Pizzerias

Although Marco’s offers you a choice of crust, Mario’s Pizza specializes in NY style pizza. Our founders, brothers, Tony, Mario, and Vinny, grew up not far from the first American pizzeria. With a signature crispy yet foldable thin crust, NY style pizza became the favorite across the continent. Today, the brothers continue to specialize in this delicious, hand-tossed crust. Moreover, you can order our pizza in several sizes:

  • 10-inch pie
  • 15-inch pie
  • 17-inch pie
  • 19-inch pie
  • 24-inch pie

Plus, we also toss a few specialty pizza pies:

  • Pizza Bianco – a white pizza
  • 5 Boroughs – meat lovers
  • Greenhouse – vegetable lovers
  • Spicy Buffalo chicken – savory with a kick
  • The Worx – smothered with our most popular toppings

Additionally, we also offer a cauliflower and rice-based crust for those with dietary restrictions. While we take allergies very seriously, we only have one kitchen. Thus, cross-contamination is a possibility.

3. Italian Entrees And Dessert Offerings

Marco’s specializes primarily in pizza, pizza bowls, salads, and subs. Plus, they offer 4 flavors of both boneless and traditional wings.

However, Mario’s serves pizza, salads, and popular Italian entrees:

  • Lasagna
  • Chicken parmigiana
  • Eggplant parmigiana
  • Baked Ziti
  • Ravioli
  • Spaghetti with fresh tomato sauce

Moreover, depending on location, you have 2 choices for dessert at Marcos: double chocolate brownie or cinnasquares. Whereas Mario’s offers 4 Italian sweet treats:

  • Cannoli
  • Tiramisu
  • Limoncello mascarpone cake
  • Cheesecake

Finally, while Marco’s offers only 6 different kinds of submarine sandwiches, Mario’s has almost twice the variety:

  • Steak sub
  • Chick–o-Philly
  • Grilled chicken
  • Sausage parmigiana
  • Meatball parmigiana
  • Eggplant parmigiana
  • Chicken parmigiana
  • Sausage, pepper, and onions
  • Italian
  • Turkey
  • Vegetable

Italian food is popular for its simplicity, affordability, and taste. When searching for authentic Italian food Greensboro NC offers, stop by Mario’s Pizza.

A Brief History Of Italian Cuisine In America

In the late 1800s to early 1900s, many Italians left their country to resettle in America. Some 4 million immigrants arrived, taking up residence in New York City and other urban areas. While they brought family recipes with them, many of the ingredients weren’t available in their new home. Thus, they created new dishes using ingredients on hand.

At first, only the Italians enjoyed these new recipes. However, that changed after WWII. While fighting in Europe, returning soldiers had grown fond of pasta and other Italian food. To meet the new demand, immigrants began opening restaurants serving Americanized dishes using Italian family recipes.

Top Italian/American Foods

Some of the best Italian food Greensboro NC offers are also the same Italian foods we love here in America. Although, they have transformed a bit from the original. Most of the time, this was due to the availability of ingredients. Below, you’ll find our top 5 Italian/American foods.

1. Pizza

Legend credits an Italian immigrant living in Manhattan in 1905 with opening the first pizzeria in America. Back then, pizza provided an affordable and portable meal for the urban population. Today, it’s an all-time favorite with Americans consuming an average of 40 pizzas per year. Although you’ll find many versions across America, the NY style pizza is the most popular.

2. Lasagna

Lasagna first appeared in Naples during the Middle Ages. As it spread throughout Italy, each region developed a different version. In those days, this dish took many hours, sometimes days to prepare. In Italy, families saved this dish for special occasions because of the time commitment and the expense of meat.

Upon arriving in America, immigrants discovered meat was plentiful and cheap. Moreover, as lasagna became more popular, American cooks simplified the dish. For example, instead of using fresh pasta, cooks used dried versions.

3. Baked Ziti

Another popular dish, pasta al forno, has roots tracing back to the Renaissance. Nobles enjoyed this ancestor to America’s baked ziti at special ceremonies and celebrations. The Italian version could contain meatballs, scrambled eggs, bechamel sauce, or vegetables depending on the area. Most Americanized versions usually use just pasta, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese.

4. Ravioli

Italians have been cooking up this stuffed pasta since the 16th century. At that time, families simmered ravioli in a broth. It wasn’t until the late 1800s that Italians began cultivating and using tomatoes in recipes.

Then, in the 1950s, the ravioli underwent a transformation. Although historians disagree on the inventor, one chef began serving toasted ravioli. Smothered in tomato sauce or toasted, don’t forget to enjoy a plateful on National Ravioli Day, March 20th.

5. Parmigiana

The earliest form of parmigiana used vegetables layered in a casserole. Although there is a reference to zucchini, the main ingredient was usually eggplant. Native to India and China, traveling Arabs introduced eggplant to the Italians in the 15th century.

When Italians arrived in America, eggplant wasn’t widely available. Many Americans were suspicious of this vegetable because it is a member of the nightshade family. Plants belonging to this family contain compounds that can be poisonous in high concentrations. However, proteins like chicken were widely available and inexpensive. Thus, cooks began cooking up versions of chicken parmigiana.

Whether simple or exotic, every culture has its version of the sandwich. Savory, hot or cold, big or small, the sandwich is a universal comfort food. So, when you have a yearning for the best Italian sub near me, where do you go?

Searching For The Best Italian Sub Near Me?

While there isn’t a standard type of Italian sub, there are certain guidelines to create the perfect sandwich. To begin with, your choice of bread must hold moist fillings without getting soggy. With a thin crust and fluffy interior, Italian bread is the perfect way to begin building your sub.

Next, let’s talk about the fillings. Many people argue over what constitutes the best ingredients. Ultimately, you want to choose cured meats, cheese, and vegetables that give you a full range of flavor and texture. Of course, you need to top it off with oil and vinegar.

Here at Mario’s, we make our Italian sub sandwiches with delicious bread and the freshest ingredients. Layers of ham, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and banana peppers sit atop our 8 or 12-inch loaves. Finally, we slather on mayo and drizzle oil and vinegar over everything. There’s no doubt about it when you’re searching for the best Italian sub near me! We have it at Mario’s Pizza.

Other Delicious Subs On The Menu

What if you want a hot sub? Or vegetarian? Don’t worry! Mario’s Pizza has you covered. We serve many different kinds of sub sandwiches to satisfy your taste.

You can choose one of our classic subs, steak, grilled chicken, or chick-o-filly. Plus, we can prepare these sub sandwiches 2 different ways, Mario’s or Philly style. Mario’s Way has cheese, banana peppers, onions, mayo, lettuce, tomato, oil, and vinegar. Or, pick Philly style with cheese, bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions.

Perhaps, you’re in the mood for a parmigiana sub? We’ve got eggplant, chicken, and meatball subs smothered in our famous Marinara sauce and melted mozzarella.

Of course, choose our vegetarian sandwich if you’d rather skip the meat. It’s loaded with peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, and mozzarella.
