Salads
Although many people want to eat more vegetables, some find preparing them too time-consuming. One way to incorporate fresh produce into your diet is through salads. Mario’s Pizza has quick and delicious, made-to-order fast food salads.
Often, busy families rely on fast food on days when there is little time to cook. Salads are a nutritious option providing vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. Choosing fast food salads for a quick lunch near you can be a healthy alternative to other options.
The perfect salad consists of several elements working together to create a scrumptious meal.
Salads begin with a base ingredient, and for most of the time, the base is greens. Often, the salad greens used are varieties of lettuce. Lettuce greens are high in fiber and nutrients while low in calories.
All Mario’s Pizza salads have a base of iceberg and romaine lettuce. While iceberg has gotten a bad rap, it does contain Vitamins A, K, and folate. Plus, it has a mildly sweet flavor with a crisp and crunchy texture. Romaine contains Vitamins C, K, A, calcium, folate, magnesium, and potassium.
Most of us are familiar with the tasting sensations of bitter, salty, sour, and sweet. However, scientists have discovered a fifth tasting sensation, umami. This taste makes food savory, complex, mouthwatering, and satisfying.
Each one of our salads contains one or more umami ingredients for a truly great taste:
One of the reasons why people like salads so much is the contrasting textures. Different ingredient consistency can turn a bland salad into a delicious one. Eating crunchy ingredients with soft foods adds depth and allows flavors to pop. In fact, one study discovered that texture attributes influence the consumer’s perceived freshness and meal satisfaction.
Of course, the freshest ingredients produce the best textures. Like all our menu items, we use locally grown products whenever possible harvested at their peak. This not only ensures the best flavors, but also great texture.
Vegetables are healthy and low in calories. However, if you’re eating an all veggie salad as a meal, you’ll soon feel hungry again. Yet, adding protein can help you feel full longer and provide a steady source of energy.
Typically, many fast food restaurants offer a grilled chicken salad, but protein options are much more extensive. The proteins in Mario’s salads range from cheeses to cured meats.
The dressing is a unifying agent for all your ingredients, balancing the different flavors. It also provides an important source of fat. Since some nutrients are fat-soluble, you’ll need salad dressing to absorb these vitamins and minerals. At Mario’s, you can drizzle your salad with Greek, Caesar, or one of our other delicious dressings.
Of course, when searching for a salad place near you, you’ll find plenty of options in our greater Piedmont area. However, not all fast food restaurants use fresh ingredients or prepare them with the same care.
For example, many establishments make their fast food salads ahead of time to handle lunch and dinner rushes. Yet, once you pre-chop or pre-cut vegetables, you give bacteria access to the inner tissues. Additionally, anti-inflammatory effects start to diminish once you cut veggies.
Alternatively, we make our salads to order, so every ingredient is fresh. It’s a difference you can taste with every bite.
A well-made salad must have a certain uniformity; it should make perfect sense for those ingredients to share a bowl.

Do you still have questions about restaurant salads? Below, we answer a few frequently asked questions.
It depends. Some fast food salad options can add unnecessary calories, fat, salt, and sugar. Avoid ingredients like fried chicken, bacon, or sweet salad dressings to keep your salad healthy.
Often, when ordering fast food salads, most people choose between a vinaigrette and a creamy dressing. Each adds flavor elements to support or contrast the flavors of the other ingredients.
Generally, vinaigrettes begin with a base of olive oil and an acid, like vinegar or lemon juice. Chefs may add other ingredients to combine the base into a unified liquid, as well as seasonings. Vinaigrettes pair well with tender greens, like spinach or watercress.
Comparatively, creamy dressings have a rich and decadent texture, starting with a mayonnaise, sour cream, yogurt, or buttermilk base. Their thicker consistency helps them coat sturdier greens like iceberg or romaine.
We think so, but more importantly, so do our customers. Here’s what a few have to say about our food and service:
Food was delicious. We ordered 19″ half pepperoni and half cheese. Along with a side salad and mild wings. Everything was delicious – JW Blackwood, NJ
I finally found a great meatball sub! Tender meatballs, fresh marinara and lots of whole milk mozzarella on perfectly toasted bread. I got the every day daily sub special: any sub, a side and a drink for $14.99. The side can be cheese sticks. yes please! Crunchy and packed with cheese. – Terri W. Kernersville, NC
