Mario’s Big Pizza

Mario’s Big Pizza Is Large Enough To Feed Your Family

When searching for a large pizza, you probably don’t want the world’s largest pie on record. That pie covered a whopping 14,000 square feet. While this may be one for the history books, you’re just looking for a delicious pizza to feed your family. This is when many people in North Carolina want a slice of Mario’s big pizza.

Origins Of Mario’s Pizza

Mario’s Pizza began decades ago in an Italian community in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up in a tight-knit American ethnic community wasn’t all that different from living in Italy. It was one of these areas where brothers Vinny, Tony, and Mario grew up.

In 1981, the brothers decided to take their culinary skills and traditional family recipes to the shores of North Carolina. They opened two pizzerias, one in Jacksonville and the other in Havelock. A few years later, the brothers moved to the Triad and opened an Italian restaurant in Winston-Salem.

As word spread of their delicious pizza over the years, the brothers continued to expand. Today, you’ll find Mario’s Pizza in 9 locations throughout the Triad:

We Serve Classic NY Style Pizza

America’s love affair with pizza began when the first pizzeria opened in 1905 in Manhattan. Over the years, the combination of a thin, crispy crust, tangy tomato sauce, and melted cheese became a hit. While other styles have developed, NY style pizza remains the most popular.

1. Crust

Beginning with the dough, we train our chefs the correct procedure for kneading, proofing, and hand tossing. Each step is crucial to achieve the thin, crispy crust you expect. Of course, our chefs understand the importance of baking time and temperature too.

2. Sauce

Next, we spread a layer of our homemade tomato sauce atop the crust. We use an old traditional family recipe handed down through generations. It has the right balance of texture, sweetness, and acidity, to complement the other ingredients.

3. Cheese

Some other styles of pizza may use provolone, white cheddar, Swiss, or a blend of cheeses. However, for NY style, there’s only one kind, low-moisture mozzarella. This cheese melts nicely with just the right amount of stretch.

4. Toppings

Typically, traditional NY style pizza has cheese and perhaps pepperoni toppings. However, we understand the desire to customize pizza with your favorite meats and vegetables. Thus, we offer a whopping 32 options to put on your pizza.

5. Size

Traditionally, Italian chefs make NY style pizza huge. Usually, pies are 18-20 inches in diameter. Moreover, a slice of pizza is so big that you need to fold a slice in half to eat it.

Mario’s big pizza is a gigantic 24 inches in diameter. However, we also make pies in smaller 10, 15, 17, and 19-inch sizes. We cut our huge 24-inch pie into 12 slices while all our other pies come in 8 slices.
